Opportunity Identification

For buyers who have a clear idea of the type of business they wish to purchase and are committed to making an acquisition happen, we suggest considering our Buy Side Search and Representation service, through which buyers engage us to actively search for the ideal business.

At the same time, we work regularly with buyers who are not so certain about what type of business they want, who prefer to focus on businesses that are already for sale, or simply don’t want to pay an intermediary's fee.  In fact, most buyers take this approach, although retained search is becoming more common, especially among savvy high net worth individuals and aggressive corporate acquirers.

We can help buyers review businesses we represent to see how they fit with their objectives, preferences and skills, and identify businesses marketed by other intermediaries, help put together offers and represent buyers throughout the acquisition process.  Contact us for more information.

In addition, we strongly suggest that buyers:

  2. Complete our buyer registration form to communicate their exact acquisition criteria to all of our agents statewide.  Buyers that register will automatically be added to the email newsletter distribution list.

While the two activities may appear somewhat redundant, our experience has shown that both approaches have led to highly successful acquisitions.  Buyers are sometimes too busy to read or respond to the newsletter, causing them to miss the ideal opportunity.  Also, because the descriptions in the newsletter are often rather cryptic to protect seller confidentiality, buyers may not realize that a particular business is a good fit and so don’t inquire.  However, if buyers register their preferences with us, an agent will likely reach out when he or she sees something that matches their specified criteria. 

Alternatively, a buyer that registers but doesn’t get the newsletter may miss an opportunity that actually is of interest, but that didn’t come to mind when completing the registration form. 

Finally, registration is important as most of the larger businesses we represent (valued $1-5 million and above) do not wish their businesses advertised on the Internet and via email.
