ProfileStephen M. Abdalla is the owner and Principal Broker of Kahala Business Services, the exclusive Hawaii franchisee of VR Mergers & Acquisitions. Steve has assembled the largest and most professional team of business intermediaries in Hawaii - more than 10 agents strong on all four major islands. Steve sold more businesses than any other franchise owner in VR's worldwide network of 115 offices during 2007. In addition, he was named "Most Valuable Intermediary" (MVI) in the worldwide VR network for 2006 from more than 500 owners and agents. VR selects one MVI each year from its worldwide network to recognize outstanding contributions to the company in sales, marketing and organizational development. Steve is the only business broker in the state of Hawaii honored with the International Business Brokers Association's (IBBA's) prestigious designation of Mergers and Acquisitions Master Intermediary ("M&AMI") and the only broker on Oahu with its Certified Business Intermediary ("CBI") designation. The M&AMI certification is awarded only to intermediaries who have demonstrated competence on middle market transactions ($1-100 million) and completed extensive advanced educational requirements. The CBI is granted based on demonstrated knowledge in small market transactions (< $1 million) and adherence to IBBA ethical standards. Steve is one of only a few dozen business brokers nationwide selected by the IBBA to teach workshops at its biannual educational conventions. Prior to founding VR Hawaii, Steve served as Vice President of Marketing of Launch Pad, one of California's premier sales and marketing consulting firms. At Launch Pad, he helped launch more than thirty start up companies, most of them venture capital financed, with invested capital ranging from $250,000 to $50 million. For these clients, he was instrumental in systematizing all aspects of the launch process, including marketing strategy & positioning, segmentation, Internet design and strategy, collateral, public relations, direct marketing programs, sales channels, and pricing strategies. The result: dozens of successful company launches, with one client acquired by Verisign for $750 million and another by Critical Path for $100 million. Prior to Launch Pad, Steve worked for CSC Index and Bain & Company, two leading management consulting firms advising Fortune 1000 companies. For these clients, he specialized in operations redesign, marketing and mergers & acquisitions. In more than 12 separate projects, documented client value added exceeded $1 MM. Steve has an MBA from Stanford University and a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley. He is a Director of the Honolulu Executives Association and a member of the International Association of Business Brokers, Hawaii Chamber of Commerce, and Entrepreneurs Organization Hawaii. He has written numerous articles on business acquisitions and strategy that have been published in the Pacific Business News.
